The Gathering

A People of Vision

The Gathering (formerly called the Roundup under U.S. Fish & Wildlife) is a massive gathering of the bison herd held every two years in October. During this time, bison are brought into the corrals for vet checks and genetic testing. As part of the bison herd management plan originally implemented under USFW, individuals deemed surplus are auctioned off to other conservation herds or to private owners. Though the Gathering has been open to the public in the past, there is some concern that large crowds can cause additional stress to the bison. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcements about whether the Gathering will be open to public viewing.

For those looking to bid, please download this form and send a hard copy to Shannon Clairmont or Dan McClure at the Bison Range Visitor Center. The deadline for bids is Sept 7th, 2023 at 2:00pm. We will be opening bids after Sept. 7th to notify awardees and to work out pick up schedules.
